Volunteering at Make, Do and Mend
Make, Do and Mend offers a variety of volunteering opportunities, which allow you to help our organisation and those who suffer with mental health distress, improve your skills, gain a reference for future employment and meet new people. Volunteers are at the heart of our organisation, so you can expect to be treated fairly and always be listened to.
All you have to do is meet us for an informal chat to clarify the tasks you are best suited to and we provide all necessary training and work towards volunteering best practice.
When volunteer roles involve significant contact with our members, we ensure everyone’s safety by requiring an enhanced DBS check. There is also no lone working and comprehensive supervision.
Without the commitment, energy and creativity of our volunteers, Make, Do and Mend would be unable to run all of its workshops and events throughout the year.
“When I started volunteering at MDAM, I had recently come out hospital after a mental health crisis and wanted to build structure into my life and move towards getting back into training and eventually back into employment. Without Make, Do and Mend, I’d never have the confidence or motivation I have now. It has been a positive aspect of my recovery from mental health issues and a great chance for me to try and give back and move on with my life.”
Volunteering Opportunities
Our roles include admin and accounts assistants, events assistants, workshop leaders and assistants, graphic designers and people helping with marketing and I.T.
Whilst we welcome volunteers in all areas, we are very keen to hear from people who could help with fundraising, assisting at events, distributing leaflets and leading workshops. We would love to hear from you if you can help with Creative Writing, French, Art and other holistic or creative activities.
If you would like to help, please fill and send in our volunteer application form and someone will be in touch with you to arrange a chat over a cuppa.
“Make Do and Mend has helped me gain my confidence to build on skills I love doing. I am so grateful for everything MDAM do.”
Volunteer your time and earn Time Credits!
Time Credits recognise and reward the valuable time and effort volunteers give to their communities. We are a partner in Tempo’s Time Credit Network. For every hour you spend volunteering, you can earn 1 Time Credit. These can be exchanged for cinema trips (The Light Cinema Cambridge), beauty treatments at Cambridge Regional College, and in various local gyms including the Abbey Leisure Complex. The full range of Time Credit spend opportunities can be found at https://www.timecredits.com
